The Sandalwood Fire threatened Redlands homes after destroying several mobile homes in Calimesa

A massive fire in Calimesa destroyed several mobile homes and threatened structures in Redlands on Thursday, Oct. 10.  The Sandalwood Fire started around 2 p.m. near Sandalwood Dr. and Seventh St. near I-10 Freeway and by 4 p.m. it had grown to 500 acres with 0 percent containment.  Riverside County authorities were trying to determine how the fire started in Calimesa while at the same time battling a fire in the Reche Canyon in the Moreno Valley vicinity.  Strong Santa Ana winds were making the extinguishing efforts harder.
