Moreno Valley Valley View (0-1, 3- last season) at Citrus Valley (7-4), 7 p.m. Friday — Temecula Valley laid a 41-6 beating on the Eagles in last Friday night’s Week Zero season opener. Daniel Barlage, who returned as Valley View’s coach in 2015 after leaving that post in 2008, had his team in the 2016 State championship bowl game, losing to Oakland Bishop O’Dowd, 43-24, on the Eagles’ home field.

Kurt Bruich, who had REV in the 2014 State finals, is back for his second season as Blackhawks’ coach.

After a phenomenal offseason in which he lost a trio of players to Bellflower St. John Bosco, last year’s starting QB to Cajon, plus a few others, Citrus Valley will turn to a roster that includes returning RB Jordan Garcia-Frye (625 yards, 6 TDs), RB Adonis Melton (415 yards, 8 TDs), WR Jordan Scott (27 receptions, 315 yards, 3 TDs), plus LB Jacob Moi (92 tackles, 4 QB sacks, 1 interception).

San Gorgonio (1-0, 12-4 last season) at Redlands (2-8, 2018 record), 7 p.m. Friday – Terriers’ junior QB Trent Young carries Mike McFarland into his second season as head coach … Watch out for the Spartans, who are rebuilding a CIF championship team with a bunch of returning guys and some capable replacements … Spartans’ offseason in the weight room provided huge results.

Two returning All-CIF players include CB Damian Rubio and WR-S Jaylen Matthews. In fact, Young will be throwing against a virtually complete secondary returning from 2018.

Desert Hot Springs (0-0) at Arrowhead Christian Academy (0-1), 7 p.m. Friday — This is a legitimate chance for the Eagles to pick up a win against a team that’s won four times since 2017. Playing out of the 8-team Desert Valley League where Coachella Valley (7-0) outlasted a trio tied for second place, the Golden Eagles lost by 4 TDs to ACA’s Eagles last season.

Redlands East Valley (0-1) at La Habra (1-0), 7 p.m. Friday — Highlanders’ coach, Frank Mazzotta Jr., is the oldest son of longtime Cerritos College coach Frank Mazzotta Sr., who just retired in recent years. It should’ve come as no real surprise that the Highlanders — 36-15 since Mazzotta’s arrival in 2015 — would beat a strong team like Upland last week.

QB Ryan Zanelli threw for 222 yards (3 TDs) against Upland last week — all in the first half. Two TDs came on throws of 40 yards to Kristopher Koontz and 53 yards to Brandon Vazquez.

Then there’s Ohio State-bound Clark Phillips, a CB who intercepted a pair of Upland passes to help La Habra pull through with its 21-14 win.
