With the Redlands Planning Commission having unanimously voted to override the Measure U with regard to the mall redevelopment I have a suggestion.

Someone should set up two cranes in the mall parking lot and raise them to the proposed height of the new development project. Maybe place a couple of flags at the top.

Then people can take a ride on the freeway or into the city's southern hills to see how the project will affect the views toward downtown.

Taking a walk around the neighboring streets with the cranes present would also provide a more realistic perspective of what everyone can expect.

Whether it demonstrates the worst fears or that it won’t be as bad as people think, we all will have a better idea of what the city is getting into.
