I am a representative of Next Gen United. We are an advocacy group for the Black Lives Matter movement for the Inland Empire centered in Highland. We are demanding three requests that must take action immediately in the city of Redlands.

More critical police training, such as de-escalation training, training to engage with those suffering from mental health problems and a mandatory training on systemic racism at the beginning of their academy.

Banning the use of excessive force from police officers during the retention of a suspect, such as: chokeholds, strangleholds, and kneeling on the neck, throat, or head.

The implementation of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) courses as freshman in high school. The Redlands Unified School District needs to create a comprehensive plan of curricula addressing the systemic racism, police brutality, and privilege in America.

A lot of change needs to happen in society, school districts, police departments and other government departments. Until that change is seen in Redlands and neighboring cities, we will continue to voice our concerns and fight for the justice of people of color.
