Redlands resident who raised nine children in Long Beach

Marilyn Maxine Drolet, who raised nine children while working at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, died on Aug. 21, 2019, in her Redlands home surrounded by her family. She was 88.

Born on Aug. 4, 1931, to Jack and LaVerne Cole, she grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. She had one sibling, Sharon Lee, who died of pneumonia at age 2.

She met her husband, Ben Drolet, while working in Long Beach and attended St. Athanasius parish, where they attended church faithfully and sent all their kids to costly private school.

She enjoyed square dancing with her husband, sewing, painting, Bible study, traveling, and worked as a travel agent for several years.

Drolet is survived by all nine of her children, Kathi of Redlands, Nancy of Santa Barbara, Michael of Huntington Beach, Marc of Lakewood; Brian of Rancho Cucamonga, Donald of Carson City, Nevada, Peter of Rancho Cucamonga, Jane of San Diego and Suzie of Oakland, and many grand- and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 115 W. Olive Ave., Redlands.
