Owen Monroe Dildine Jr. of Redlands, who worked at Stater Bros. for 40 years, died on Thursday, July 11, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. He was 79.

He was born on April 28, 1940, in Steele, Missouri, to Owen Sr. and Ruby Dildine. The family moved to Redlands in 1943.

Dildine graduated from Redlands High School in 1958, where he competed on the swim team. At 15, he started working for Stater Bros. and stayed with the store for 40 years. He retired as manager of the Yucaipa store at 55.

He served in the California National Guard from 1963 to1969. He was always a lover of cars, especially

cars and trucks from the 1940s and ’50s. He restored a 1948 Chevy half-ton pickup truck, winning trophies in car shows.

Dildine is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elisabeth; sons Greg and Eric; daughter Lori; brother Jerry; sisters Earline Slajs and Mildred Scott; niece, Lisa Melo; five grandchildren, Sarah, Jessie, Amelia, Loic and Cleo; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Margaret Colley; brother-in-law William Colley; and nephew Lin Colley.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 19, at Cortner Chapel, 221 Brookside Ave., with reception to follow.
