F. Charles “Chuck” Barnett, a U.S. Navy veteran who lived in Redlands for 59 years, died peacefully at his home on May 27, 2021. He was 98.

Born on March 8, 1923, he was raised in Hollywood. After graduating from Fairfax High School in 1942, he enlisted in the Navy. He served four years in the South Pacific assigned to maintain and operate Higgins boats, which were used amphibious landing crafts that could carry a platoon.

In 1951, he married Lois Von Wald, and he died just before celebrating their 70th anniversary. They first lived in Torrance before moving to Redlands in 1962. He was self-employed as a dairy products distributor until he retired in 1993.

Barnett enjoyed traveling and golf, and was a member of the Redlands-Yucaipa Golf Group.  

He is survived by his wife; daughters Debbie Polhemus and her husband Steve, and Janine Honda and her husband Mason; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
