Registration is open for the Redlands Forum “Finish Strong — Choices as Life Ends,” sponsored by Esri and the University of Redlands Town & Gown.
Hosted by Redlands native Samantha Trad, the California director of compassion & choices, the free event will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Esri, 380 New York St.
Attendees can expect an open discussion centered around the California End of Life Option Act and how it affects end-of-life decisions. The act, which went into affect in June 2016, allows an adult diagnosed with a terminal disease and meets certain qualifications to request aid-in-dying drugs. Participation is strictly voluntary at all stages for everyone involved, including patients, health care providers, health systems, pharmacists and insurers. Participants go through several steps before the medication can be administered.
Other important topics include medical insurance coverage for the drug, life insurance implications and the importance of preparing an advance directive. Trad, a University of Redlands graduate, will also share other end-of-life options and tools available.
