Time for Change Foundation Executive Director Vanessa Perez has announced that Assemblyman James C. Ramos, a Democrat from Highland, has donated his Yum Yum Restaurant in San Bernardino so the organization can expand its job training and other services for homeless and low-income residents.

“This is exactly what our community needs, and Time for Change Foundation is in a prime position to use it as part of an economic development hub,” Perez said. “Our track record of success flows from our ability to help women achieve financial stability.”

Ramos, who turned the restaurant over to the foundation in August, said, “COVID-19 has only increased the dilemmas of homelessness, job loss and lack of access to health services. The people at Time For Change are filling an essential need in our community, and I am privileged to help them in the great work they do to uplift the most vulnerable in our society.”

Perez said that for more than 18 years, the foundation has been on the forefront helping to end homelessness for women and children

“Empowering women and ensuring that families are thriving is at the heart of what we do,” she said. “According to the State of Women in the IE report from the University of Riverside overall, in the Inland Empire, black women are at a 24% poverty rate and Hispanic women are at a 22% poverty rate.”

Perez said the Time for Change Foundation has served the San Bernardino area since 2002

“We are taking time to plan how best to use the building in order to increase the self-sufficiency of those seeking our services,” she added. “Our goal is to build successful futures and create economic security.”
