A 65-year-old Grand Terrace woman running along Barton Road was killed when a suspected drunken driver struck her early Saturday morning near Newport Avenue in Loma Linda.
At 6:05 a.m. Nov. 2, sheriff’s deputies found a vehicle driven by Isaiah Tamasoaalii, 19-year-old Redlands resident struck the victim, Judith Covarrubias who was running on the sidewalk on the south side of the road, according to a press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The fire department and American Medical Response responded to the scene. Despite lifesaving efforts, Covarrubias was declared dead. Deputies from the Region I Major Accident Investigation Team arrived on-scene and assumed the collision investigation. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
Tamasoaalii was arrested and booked for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
