A suspect in the stabbing death of a 52-year-old Redlands man on Aug. 31 was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the U.S. border in San Ysidro, in San Diego County, according to Redlands police.
Michael Lynn Roberts was stabbed outside his home at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, in the 1200 block of Heath Street. The suspect, 38-year-old Yoshi Kazuto Izumi, fled in a 2007 Nissan Altima, which was located in Yucaipa the next day.
Redlands detectives and members of the Redlands Police Department’s Special Enforcement and Multiple Enforcement teams were assisted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in taking into custody on a $1 million warrant for murder at the border
“It’s my hope that this arrest brings some sense of relief to the victim’s family and friends as well as to the community of Redlands,” said Chief of Police Chris Catren. “I applaud the efforts of all our staff who brought this tragic case to a swift resolution.”
Izumi was booked at the San Diego Central Jail.
