A Riverside man was arrested after driving a stolen vehicle 80 mph on Fifth Street in San Bernardino at 3 a,m. Tuesday.
On July 28, Deputy K. Lunde of the Sheriff's Central Station initiated a traffic stop when he witnessed the vehicle speeding west on Fifth Street approaching Tippecanoe Avenue, said a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department press release.
Lunde initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver, later identified as Val Hernandez, 39, sped through the intersection and refused to pull over.
Hernandez drove down a dead-end street and fled on foot. Lunde provided a description of to Deputy S. Rule, who pursued him on foot. Rule located Hernandez on Mount Vernon Avenue hiding in a breezeway of an abandoned business.
Hernandez was arrested for evading with disregard for public safety and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was booked into Central Detention Center and is being held on $100,000 bail.
