A 16-year-old passenger died and three other teenagers were injured after a truck careened off State Route 38 following two hit-and-run collisions Sunday afternoon north of Bryant Road, the CHP reports.

At about 5:20 p.m. the 17-year-old driver of a silver Ford F-150 was traveling north on SR-38 when the collisions occurred. The driver of the Ford then made a U-turn and fled the scene southbound on SR-38.

“Witnesses reported the driver fled the scene southbound on SR-38 at a high rate of speed,” said a press release. “Approximately half mile south of the first two collision scenes, the driver lost control of the Ford.:

The Ford overturned several times on the right shoulder of the roadway, causing minor to major injuries to three passengers, all 16, and fatal injuries to a fourth passenger. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this collision.

Identification of the driver and victims is with held pending notification of the families by the San Bernardino County coroner .
