A 34-year-old Mentone man was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence after a fatal collision with a bicyclist Thursday night, May 7.
Redlands police responded shortly before 8 p.m. to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist at Tennessee Street and San Bernardino Avenue.
The driver, Ricardo Angel Aguilar, was traveling west on San Bernardino Avenue at a high rate of speed in a 1996 Toyota Camry when he struck the bicyclist.
An ICU nurse on her way home from her shift at Redlands Community Hospital arrived on scene shortly after the accident and began treating the victim until Redlands Fire Department paramedics arrived.
The unidentified male victim was transported by ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators are working to identify the victim, who is believed to be a transient.
Aguilar was arrested and is being held at Central Detention Center in San Bernardino in lieu of $250,000 bail.
San Bernardino Avenue was closed during the investigation until approximately 1 a.m. Friday.
