A motorcyclist riding north died early Sunday morning in the fog on Interstate 15 south of Oak Hill Road in the Cajon Pass when he crashed into a car that had run out of gas in the fast lane, the CHP reports.

Riding a 1996 Honda 900RR, the unidentified cyclist ran into a black 2005 Ford Mustang

at 4:12 a.m. April 25 driven by Darion Tatum, a 36-year-old San Bernardino.

“For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Honda collided with the left side of the Ford,” said a press release. “As a result of the collision, the unidentified driver of the Honda sustained major injuries.”

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin by the San Bernardino County coroner’s office. Darion Tatum was subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
