Burning vehicle starts fire.

The Monday afternoon fire off Garnet Street burned 43 acres total, 8 of them in the Redlands city limits

 

Redlands firefighters responded to a vegetation fire sparked by a vehicle fire in the 33000 block of Newport Avenue, east of Garnet Street, Monday afternoon. No injuries were reported.

The first unit arrived at approximately 4:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, to find a 1-acre fire burning at a moderate rate of spread in grass and brush. The fire was ultimately contained at approximately 43 acres. Approximately 8 acres burned in the city of Redlands.

Firefighters remained on scene overnight and throughout the day on Tuesday to fully extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.

The estimated loss was approximately $5,000 for the vehicle. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

In addition to 10 firefighters from the Redlands Fire Department, firefighters from Cal Fire, U.S. Forest Service and San Bernardino County Fire Department also responded.
