James Knox Reynolds, a U.S. Navy veteran who grew up in Redlands and traveled the world working for DuPont, died in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Jan. 27, 2021. He was 90.  

Known to friends as Jim, he was born in San Diego to Harold and Elizabeth Reynolds, but spent most of his childhood living in Redlands.

Following his four older brothers, he served in the Navy during World War II after graduating from high school. He completed his degree in agronomy, the science of soil management and crop production, at UCDavis, where he played football, was an Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity member and met his future wife of 65 years, Betty McMinn.

He worked for Del Monte for four years on Molokai, Hawaii, then pursued a lengthy career with DuPont, which resulted in his family residing on both U.S. coasts. He took his family with him when DuPont transferred him to Tokyo, and Geneva, Switzerland.  

After a 29-year worldwide career with DuPont, he retired and started his own consulting business, Agriventures Inc. This second career lasted for over 20 years.

He enjoyed sing-alongs and playing the ukulele, guitar and piano.

He is survived by his wife; children Marcia and her husband Michael, Robert and his wife Patrice, and Nina and her husband Jeffrey; eight grandchildren, Forrest, Grace, Waverly, Robbie, Faith, Marlena, Mackie and Owen; and great-grandchildren Emily, Allison and Robin.

He was predeceased by his five brothers, Stanley Gilbert Reynolds, Newell Taylor Reynolds, Francis Wayland Reynolds, John Oxenbridge Reynolds and Harold Youmans Reynolds Jr.

He was also predeceased by his parents Harold and Elizabeth Reynolds.

The family expresses gratitude to the Maravilla in Scottsdale and Hospice of the Valley.

A private family memorial service will be held with a celebration of life to be announced in the spring.
