Giro Anthony “Jerry” Modica, a U.S. Navy veteran who worked at Hatfield Buick, died peacefully on Feb. 12, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 87.
Born in Buffalo, New York on April 22, 1933 to Rosario Modica and Mary Cordoro, he was a first-generation Italian American. He retired from the Navy in 1963 and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Angels, and Los Angeles Lakers.
He grew up in Buffalo, where he owned Twin City Auto Transmission. The family moved to Redlands in 1989. He worked at Hatfield Buick until his retirement in 1999.
Modica is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann C. Modica; children Anthony Modica of Buffalo, Elizabeth Loomis of Redlands, Joseph Modica of Redlands and their spouses Sarah Modica, Scott Loomis and Candice Cabanilla Stewart; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Cortner Chapel in Redlands followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. A mass celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 4, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Redlands followed by a burial at Riverside National Cemetery at noon.
