A 25-year-old Hesperia man was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 8 by Redlands Police for lewd acts with a minor in connection with an incident at a Target store in Redlands, police said.
According to authorities, Alex Francisco Chavez entered the store located at 27320 W. Lugonia Avenue on Friday, Sept. 6 and walked directly to the toy section where he apparently engaged in a short conversation with an 8-year-old girl.
When the girl left the toy section to meet her mother, Chavez followed her, walked up behind her, and grabbed her chest and squeezed her breasts over her clothing before walking away, police said.
The victim reported the incident to her mother who confronted Chavez inside the store. Chavez denied the incident and left the store, police added.
After information was released on social media, detectives developed leads identifying Chavez as the suspect. Police contacted Chavez, who agreed to meet detectives at the Redlands Police Department where he was interviewed and subsequently arrested.
According to police, Chavez currently has a case pending in Superior Court in Hesperia where he faces seven counts for allegedly exposing himself to teenage girls outside a Hesperia middle school last February. As a result, Redlands Police sought and obtained a bail enhancement.
Chavez was booked into Central Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
