On the site where orchards once bloomed, a U-STOR-IT building will be constructed soon as the Redlands Planning Commission approved plans on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Commissioners unanimously approved plans to construct a 6,546-square-foot storage facility to be near West Colton Avenue and New York Street in the commercial industrial district section of the city.
The project consists of six detached buildings and a 993-square-foot management office. The approval came with conditions to modify proposed fencing and walls.
On April 10, 2018, the commission approved a tentative parcel map to subdivide an approximately 4.2-acre parcel into to parcels.
According to city staff, historic aerial photographs, which date back to 1938 show the project site with orchards.
Between the years 1938 and 1959, the orchards next to the project site were removed.
Since the trees were removed in the 1950s the site has been vacant, according to city staff.
