Famished finches

Christina McKinney put a finch sock in her Redlands backyard crape myrtle tree and the finches have finished it off in a matter of a few days. “They are fighting for the Nyjer seed!” she said. “It is quite interesting to watch the array of birds swooping down over the hills into my backyard, including blue birds who ate all of the wild birdseed and then disappeared. It wasn’t until they were gone that others began coming! A hawk swooped down from across the yard and dove toward two unsuspecting birds sitting on the fence. “They scattered and the hawk was unsuccessful.”
