The Friends of A.K. Smiley Public Library will host an October special sale from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22. The sale continues from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The October special sale will feature more than 3,000 items including books on art, animals, children’s, cooking, crafts, history including lots of biographies and California history, hobbies, Hollywood, home, science, writing, coffee table books, fiction including both hardcover and softcover plus mystery novels. DVDs and CDs will be available as well, along with a few records.

Prices on Friday and Saturday will be: $2 per book for children’s books, $1 for paperbacks, $2 for hardbacks; $1 for DVDs and CDs. Vinyl will be individually priced.

Sunday’s close-out day will be a bag sale $5 and bag for members and $8 and bag for non-members.

“Our sales events are made possible by the generous donations of the community,” said Rebecca McCurdy, president of the Friends.

Proceeds from the sales and our bookstore enable the Friends to help fund new books and programs like the Summer Reading Program and Adult Literacy

Another way to support the work of the Friends is to become a member.

Membership forms will be available at the sale. Individual memberships are $10 per year, family memberships are $25.

Members receive a number of discounts and benefits, including early access to the popular First Saturday Bag Sales at the Friends bookstore on the lower level of the library.

  • History: The Friends of A.K. Smiley Public Library was formed in 1973 to support the city of Redlands’ library. Annual dues are used to purchase new books and digital material for the library collection and to fund children’s programming, infrastructure upgrades and heritage programs.
