The Inland Master Chorale is releasing a free virtual choir performance showcasing the music of the award-winning musical “Les Misérables” at 7 tonight. A video link will be available at www.inlandmasterchorale.org. The video can be watched any time after the release.
The 25-minute chorale medley arrangement by Mac Huff features all the familiar songs from “Les Mis” including: At the End of the Day, I Dreamed a Dream, Master of the House, Castle on a Cloud, On My Own, One Day More, Bring Him Home, and Do You Hear the People Sing?
The professionally produced video performance was five months in the making with singers rehearsing via Zoom since January due to COVID19 pandemic restrictions. “I am so proud of our singers,” said the Chorale’s Artistic Director Joseph Modica. “They took on the technical challenges required to prepare and perform at a high level.”
Over 50 singers contributed to the performance and 18 different soloists are utilized: Lindsey Lopez-Johnson, Wendy Lopez, Melody Bellora, Megan Owens, Nicole Kanahele-Stutz, Amanda Stuart, Raul Valdez, Marian Dorst, Grace Stewart, Joshua Edmondson, Susan Meinders, Rachel Modica, Tina Skousen, Katrina Collins, Zachary Krug, Alan Frost, Amy Hurst, and Veronica Young.
To create the virtual choir, Chorale members video themselves singing while listening to a recorded accompaniment. Then professionals Brad Andrews, audio production, and Scott Sutherland, video production, must compile over 100 uploaded audio and video files and add visual effects to create the final product.
“Instead of taking the year off during the pandemic, the Chorale felt it was important to continue to perform for our audience and for ourselves,” said Modica. “Still, we can’t wait to perform live again and are optimistic about returning to a normal season in the fall.”
Additional Chorale virtual choir performances are available at www.inlandmasterchorale.org. The 80-member Chorale is under the direction of Dr. Joseph Modica, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Director of the School of Music at the University of Redlands and Music Director at the First Presbyterian Church of Redlands. Assistant Director Anna DeLeon is Director of Choirs at Grand Terrace High School. Accompanist is Sophie Tait.
