24th annual San Manuel Pow Wow: All day Friday, Oct. 11, to Sunday Oct. 13, Cal State San Bernardino.  From Montana to the Dakotas and Alaska to Canada, the best dancers, drummers and artisans from across North America will gather to celebrate their culture and spiritual roots at the 24th annual San Manuel Pow Wow. Dancers and drummers will compete for over $250,000 in prizes in a unique showcase of Native American culture. In addition to competitive dancing, the event will feature contests for tiny tots, juniors and teens, as well as audience participation dancing open to all attendees. Non-competitive exhibitions include tributes to veterans, blessings, intertribal dancing and Bird Singing, which is Native American music indigenous to Southern California and the Colorado River Region. Family Day at Smiley Library: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, A.K. Smiley Public Library. First 200 families who check in receive a free hardcover book. Author and illustrator Joe Cepeda will autograph books from 11-11:30 a.m. There will be a kids activity station and food.

AAUW speech contest: 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, Citrus Valley High School Faculty Room. The American Association of University Women, Redlands Branch, welcome high school students to participate in a speech contest. The contestants will speak for 5 to 6 minutes on the theme: Are men and women really equal today or are the suffragettes of 1920 still suffering in 2020? The first place winner will receive $300. They will automatically advance to the state semi final competition where 3 finalists from throughout the state will be chosen to compete at the AAUW State Annual Convention. Questions?
