Art, for Heaven’s Sake! fine arts festival to be held in October

This year’s featured artist will be Joseph Stoddard, who created this image of the Colorado Street bridge in Pasadena. He has been painting urban landscapes in watercolor for more than 30 years. He first paints by using pen and ink. After that he loosely applies color in a unique, impressionistic style, according to artforheavenssake.org.

The Redlands United Church of Christ holds its 40th annual Art for Heaven’s Sake! Festival on Oct. 18 through 20.

In the beginning, the show was intended as a fundraiser showcasing local talent, according to a press release. The first event was held in a private home and featured five local artists.

This year’s show will accommodate 70 artists.

Each year, the Art, for Heaven’s Sake! committee and sponsors choose a charity to which part of the proceeds are donated. Although most selected artists are local, over the years, the reputation of the show has spread.

Submissions now come from artists from all over the Western states. These submissions are juried to ensure a selection of fine art representing a wide range of media. All art is available for purchase.

A new feature this year will be the Mosaic Hall Art Craft Boutique featuring hand-made crafts.

In addition, the festival hosts musicians from all over Southern California.

Saturday afternoon, a special music event takes place featuring two jazz quintets and a jazz vocalist made up of amazing musicians from the Los Angeles jazz scene.
